I changed the data directory in preferences and everything is gone
mydump Sat, 02/20/2010 - 23:06
Folders are gone. Saved email is gone. ( I did have some things backed up elsewhere).
Address book is gone.
ACCOUNTS are gone. And those are not easy to set up.
It looks like it did when I first installed it.
Can anyone point me to where I can find the old data directory and possibly move that data to my new data directory I created on my hard drive???
Please? I looked around in the browser files in the program directory under Mozilla Firefox, where I assume it is if it still exists, but, I cannot seem to locate it. I know I can recreate it all and I have backups at the mail servers of important stuff, but I would rather just move a file.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me with this.
-mike
Re:may have fixed it myself
Submitted by mydump on Sun, 02/21/2010 - 00:33Ok, my pc is a windows xp. I did a search of the c drive for anything with 'simplemail' in the name. I found the files in the default at
c/documents& settings/admin/application data/mozilla/firefox/profiles
I took down firefox, closed it out
Using that search window I highlighted and copied everything there to the directory I had switched the settings to point to:
such as, let's say>> c:/simplemail/abc
Once all the files were copied there, I brought up firefox, and everything was there. Firefox immediately polled all my mailboxes on the internet for new mail.
In other words it's all good again. email, addresses, connections. At least for now.
whew!
I scare myself like that every once in a while... -mike.

Apologies that no one came to your rescue
By the way there is this great little firefox addon for accessing the current Firefox Profile while you are in Firefox.
Perfect for having a quick look around in the Profile
Open Profile Folder
thanks for your detailed and helpful feedback
