Firefox not retaining bookmarks on reboot
ssansil Thu, 10/09/2014 - 14:14
Hello, I am having a very hard time.
Got a new work computer, so I immediately installed fast dial.
Downloaded a theme from the site (EarthfromSpace.zip).
Please see here
After a few days, I decided to change the theme to a plain image.
Spent days requesting logos and setting up my fastdial page. it was perfect.
When I close firefox and turn it back on, everything is okay.
But when I turn off the computer or restart it, I lose my image and bookmark folders.
It always goes back to EarthfromSpace with no bookmarks.
I spend the day reposing every image and link and the same issue occurs when the computer is restarted. This has happened a dozen times.
I uninstalled fast dial and reinstalled it, Earth from Space is still listed in the memory and is used as the default theme, still not saving my info.
I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it then installing fast dial, same issue. this theme is haunting my firefox and wont go away, inhibiting me from customizing or even using fast dial the way I need it.
Any advice?

Re: Fast Dial wiping settings on reboot

So this suggests that the problem is with your Firefox
Have you any other extensions running ?
Could you switch them all off and try again
Would you also be so kind as to try and reproduce this problem in a new firefox profile.
If you try and it works then you can delete your present profile
If it does not work then we will have to consider starting again from scratch, either with Firefox or Pale Moon

OK
Close Firefox
Got to Start and Run
In the Open box type firefox.exe -p
Then OK
Click on create profile
This will not work unless you have all open firefoxes closed

Submitted by ssansil on Mon, 10/13/2014 - 13:35this was done. once the new profile was created, i added fast dial to it. I restarted my computer and turned on firefox, same problem. I went to check my profile, and the one I had just created was not there anymore

OK
So there is a serious problem...
Are you certain that at work you are logging on with the same identity each time ?
And you said that you are not syncing Firefox....
If you are really sure that there is nothing strange about your setup we can do the following
either
1.Erase Firefox from your computer completely and start again
2. Load Pale Moon and see if we have better luck
Pale Moon is basically a branch of Firefox...

Re: Fast Dial wiping settings on reboot
Submitted by chiaroscuro on Mon, 10/13/2014 - 13:47You can run Pale Moon without deleting your Firefox
You could look upon it as a test
My guess is that it will work fine
Looks just the same as Firefox
Re: Fast Dial wiping settings on reboot
Submitted by ssansil on Mon, 10/13/2014 - 14:04So i downloaded PaleMoon. added fast dial, restarted my computer, no corruption.
It looks as if this is a good alternative.
I would hate using this as my default.
I hope my company does not delete it internally because it isn't a company recognized browser, but if this is the only way i can use fast dial at work, i will use it.
Thank you all for all of your help.

Well first of all Pale Moon is an excellent Browser based on an earlier version of Firefox, made for speed and ease of use. (it is really good)
I expected it to work
If you felt like removing your Firefox now completely from your Computer you could do. But it would be necessary to remove everything,
You could thne start with Firefox 31 and see how you get on from there.
I do not think that this is a problem related to either Fast Dial or for that matter to the theme.
I think this is a Firefox related problem
If you start with Firefox 31 you could see.
But please after you have uninstalled Firefox, before you load Firefox delete the Mozilla Firefox Folder in Program Files in Windows, so that you start completely afresh with Firefox
Please let me know how you get on.
