yeah just checked it against black background it does look aweful, the problem is my photoshop stops working as soon as I click on text tool (any idea why?). I'll try to use Ilustrator or firework but I am not very good working with them. Sorry for the bad quality though.
I use Fireworks and I love it. It's not as effect packed as photoshop, but I love its ability to work with bitmaps as well as vector graphics and it is fairly simple to use. You should check it out :)

You could use a Bold Arial font and customise the "S" to end with cut-off lines, and also the"a" and the "e" to make them end in a straight line.
