I do NOT like the new way of moving cells on the Fast Dial page

The old system which has existed for years was fine

Please undo this change

It looked in Add to Fast Dial that there was no longer the option to add to subfolders as the arrow had gone

Did not realise I had to click on the add to fast dial for another window to open

Once I had understood that well it works fine

Maybe even better than before

I had received a response from a user saying that apart from session problems new drag-n-drop behavior is good.

Now in Add to Fast Dial there is no onger the option to save to subfolders
Have you tried the latest version 4.14.4? It shows folder selection window (like in Move to...) in Add to Fast Dial.
It was changed because on some machines "Add to Fast Dial" menu with subfolders slowed down the context menu.

I have maybe 50 cells in the root

I find this system impossible to use, I can't control the movement of the cells anymore !!!! :-(

I've been told that all modern dialers have such drag-n-drop behavior. The underlying cells shift right to let space for the item being dropped.

And if you have three cells aligned horizontally and 50 cells vertically it does not work !
You get in a mess very quickly

Tried again moving cells with new system of drag and drop

Caused browser to crash (Pale Moon 26.1.1

Cells muddled up

Please return to previous system

Worked fine before

Have gone back to Version 4.12.1 of Fast Dial

Can confirm, the new method of shifting cells is hard to get used too. I don't know which way is considered proper procedure, but I think it will take a while for people to get used to the new way.

I have added a preference "Old drag-n-drop" for those who like old
drag-n-drop style and uploaded the updated version to UserLogos.
Please try.

Yes, a checkbox "Old drag-n-drop" below "Hide Back links" checkbox.
BTW, a translation of "Old drag-n-drop" is needed for French, German and Ukrainian.
