I'm thinking of installing WUBI onto a USBflash drive, or should I install normal Ubuntu on the flash drive?

Yes interesting question, it would be handy to run Ubuntu in that way, especially if the HD is small or the computer belongs to someone else.

There are some useful ideas on that link page that I suggested to Mark.

I do not know the answer to your question though

Open to trouble maybe.

Good luck !

Good link

Looks interesting

But if there are problems it seems they could be big ones.
Tread carefully..

@chiaroscuro & MP
I would recommend the website pendrivelinux.com
There are tutorials on the site on how to install any version of Linux(Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, gOS, etc..) on a Flash Drive. The tutorials are very clear and easy to follow, I followed the tutorial and installed Ubuntu on my 16 GB SanDisk Cruzer without any problem(So far it has worked on 5 different PCs). They even have a version of linux which is very small and works on a 512MB Drive.

The pendrivelinux site does not use the wubi method as you don't have to install anything on the computer itself, i.e. You don't need Windows. You just have to install Ubuntu to the drive and then insert the flash drive and boot from it, no install needed!
I still have about 8 GB left on my 16 GB USB Drive after the install.

Wow this post is getting long fast..

Anyway.. I would install ubuntu on usb drive by using an iso from their site.. Not wubi...
That site suggested by sjdvda is a perfect resource.

I had ubuntu running on my 1GB usb with beryl/ compiz :)
I called it USBuntu =]

Nowadays ubuntu supports alot more hardware than it used to, and can even run many windows applications - so it rocks!!

My posts are always long.

its such a great piece of free software.

All you very patient people have shown me how to use a great addon in FastDial

And now you have "given" me a whole new OS,

Now that's what I call a natural progression

:-)

@jmarkybb

Now that's what I call a natural progression

I presume that you are running Firefox in Ubuntu
And that you are using Fast Dial in Firefox, is that correct.

How do you manage without your Windows applications.

Do you depend now completely on Firefox extensions when in Ubuntu.

What steps do you have to go though to get into Ubuntu/Firefox.

Have you worked out a way to boot straight into Ubuntu when your computer starts

I presume that launchy will no longer work to launch windows applications, although it should work to launch Ubuntu applications, but possibly you have none.

Please let me know about these things.

Many thanks
