Fast Dial not opening in new Tab with Colorful Tabs and TMP

Having a problem with Fast Dial + ColorfulTabs.
Fast Dial doesn't load in new tab.
To recreate the problem:
1) Install ColorfulTabs
2) Restart Firefox (version 12)
3) verify if ColorfulTabs works
4) Install Fast Dial
5) Restart
6) Verify that Fast Dial works, BUT it will work this time
7) Close Firefox
8) Open Firefox
9) Load any web page
10) open New Tab
11) Fast dial doens't load in new tab.
-----------------
Optional
12) uninstall Fast Dial
13) Repeat steps 3 to 10, same things happens again.
I tried this on my Laptop and Desktop, both Windows 7.

And or TMP for that matter
It is quite possible that colorful tabs is changing tab setting and TMP is then holding onto the setting

I'm starting to think that the culprit is TMP or Firefox about:blank thing.
My wife's firefox suffers the same problem but have far less addons than me, so I copied her profile and tried to experiment with it. Disabling Colofull tab doesn't make fast dial to work. Disabling TMP does.
Also, I found something interesting. If you disable any addon and click the "Restart Now" link, after the restart, Fast Dial works for that session, IF you close FF via the close button and open FF again, Fast Dial will not work.

Which is your Firefox Version ?
It should be possible to reproduce your problem.
I am suprised that no other user has reported this difficulty.
It should be possible to discover what exactly is happening.

Could you try creating a new profile(then install Fast Dial first) and then try installing each of your addons one by one until you find one where it doesn't work with Fast Dial? I have tested Fast Dial with TMP and it works perfectly on my machine.

All of our Firefox are really old, they were updated and upgraded several times over the last year or years. I'll wipe firefox completely to see what happens. :O

That could be what the problem was. Make sure to back up your bookmarks before you completely wipe it out:) Also this program by mozilla can help in managing profiles: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Profile_Manager

Seems a little extreme at this point.
You could I suppose backup your present Profile also with a complete Profile back up with FEBE and restore easily later.
I guess I would be interested to see in your about:config what is happening to your settings related to TABs.
Most especially to the Tab Mix Plus settings in relation to Fast Dial and understand who is doing what to whom.
Maybe there is something interesting happening in there that we could learn from.
Your profile could of course be corrupted..
Laptop AND Desktop ?
Are you syncing your computers at all ?

Don't worry about me losing my profile and bookmarks, I use a virtual machine for testing stuff. :)
Anyway, I found the stupid problem and you won't believe it... ¬¬
The culprit is Session Manager Addon...
I was installing my addons one by one and closing and opening firefox manually, pressing the X button, not using the "Restart Now" link because using it I can't reproduce the problem. I installed everything and "everything" works. Then, after configuring everything to match my old profile I decided to try it in my main machine. On my main machine, it happened again, FastDial didn't work, but in the virtual machine fast dial does works. I was getting frustrated at this point because "everything" was working. Then I noticed a different symptom on the virtual machine; Colorful Tabs weren't so colorful... even when Firefox says that colorful tabs was enable. I was lost here, I was like, wtf now... Then I was thinking, why, when I use the "restart now" link, Fast Dial works but when I use the close button it stop working... that's because, with the "restart now" link, Firefox bypass the Session Manager prompt window. Then I disabled Session Manager and Fast Dial works, Coloful Tabs works and Tab Mix Plus works! There is not mention of this problem in the development channel of Session Manager but they have a beta here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/
I installed the beta and everything is working 100% so far.
Man, finding bugs isn't easy... I'm tired, going to bed now. :P

So you have at last found the cause of the trouble.
Ef and I had been talking about Session restoring being a possible culprit.
did not know about you using this extension
This is good news
I guess with this new structure in Firefox itself, there are going to be a few inconsistencies as all the different extensions settle down to working together.
You found a weakness in one that was causing problems elsewhere

So yet another Firefox NTF teething trouble bites the dust...
