Logos not showing
Raicuparta Thu, 08/06/2009 - 04:36
I've been using the Fast Dial extension for some time now, and I tried to use the logo function because some websites don't look so good as a thumbnail. The problem is, when I choose a logo, the dial for that website just goes white.
I tried saving the picture to my computer and using it directly from the website, but none of those seem to work.

Re: Logos not showing
Submitted by Raicuparta on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 17:44I would be interested to learn what the offending style code was.
Too bad you will never know. Funny story: when the logos started working I was so excited that I started using and making logos for every page in Fast Dial, and when I finished I turned Stylish on again. Every style is still there, all of them on, but the logos seem to work normally O_o I enabled stylish, refreshed the thumbnails (which is what I did before to make it work) and they are still there. Even if I make a new one it works. So maybe this was just one of those episodes every computer has where it is just plain annoying for no apparent reason.
Thanks for your attention, hope this wasn't much of a waste of time ;)

Shame... :-)

I see.
Most peculiar.
I presume you restarted Firefox
Good news anyhow !
How intriguing.
Something must have been causing the problem though !!
Thanks for all the feedback
Many thanks

Re: Logos not showing
Submitted by spaljeni on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 18:00You can enter the URL of the image of a Logo on this site in Properties.
But is not recommended as it increases Userlogos Bandwidth.
Actually FD creates a cache of all logos in use in the Mozilla profile folder:
AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*cens*\fastdial\cache
If you dont believe me, take any of the files in this folder and add a PNG extension to it.

Ah, OK thanks
Yes, I see what you mean.
It might show up the differences too much
Had you ever considered posting a request on this site for some of the transparent Logos that you are missing ?

Yes of course you are right.
I had often seen this practice discouraged on this site.
And had somehow imagined that each time Fast Dial opened that each cell re-accessed the URL in properties.
Of course in fact it doesn't any more than it re-accesses the hard drive.
So with the use of the cache, the drain on UL would be of course much less.
However I would still maintain that saving to the hard disk is better practice, in spite of the existence of the cache.
Many thanks
