Issues with Simple Mail 2.71: Address Book and sent mail window (tab) does not close

I like the tool yet a few things are now broken:

Address book does not display any entries
When sending email the mail is sent but the tab does not close, and then asks to save as a draft

I t would be great if you had more comprehensive back-up/export rather than having to select each folder.

I lost my contacts. or they exist but disappeared.

and after sending a message the tab does not close..!

and the icon keeps blinking..!
