Background tabs?

First of all, this is by far my favourite Firefox addon and I've been a fan from the first release - thanks very much for creating it! :)
I have a quick question about background tabs. I currently have my browser set up so that a Fast Dial window opens as my homepage. What I like to do when I start up my browser is pick from a few of my favourite sites and let them load in the background while I read the first one.
With successive versions of Fast Dial this became harder (chasing the 'open in background' option through two menus in the last version was tricky, since I found the second menu had a tendency to vanish if I moved the mouse too quick ...), and now in this latest version it doesn't seem to be possible at all - I can set the 'Open in New Tab' option, but not for opening links in background tabs, and I have to keep switching back to Fast Dial to choose more sites.
I know that if I move all my tabs to a folder I can set them all to open in tabs at the same time, but I have a slower internet connection and don't want to load nine windows at once. I'd just like to choose a few favourites at random when I open my browser, like I used to. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing, or are there any plans to reintroduce a background tab functionality? Or am I the first and only person to actually care one way or the other about this issue? ;)
In any case, I fully intend to keep using Fast Dial, whether or not I have to exercise my mouse more than I used to ...

Open Links in Background Tab would seem to be working fine.
I wonder why it does not work for you.
Please clarify further.
Try running Fast Dial with other Extensions disabled, or try running just Fast Dial in a New Firefox Profile.
Please let me know how you get on
Many thanks

My only other extension at the time was AdBlock Plus, and I've reenabled that now without any ill effect, so not really sure what the issue was? I could see the Preferences screen as represented in your screenshot up there, and chose 'background tab', but for some reason they kept opening in new active tabs and taking me away from the Fast Dial page.
Anyway, thanks for getting back to me, and I have to say now that background tabs are working, this version of Fast Dial is terrific :)

Glad to know that everything is working for you now, and that you like this Version.

Strange.
Keep us posted if this happens again.
Many thanks for the feedback
