Submitted by ingalls on Mon, 09/28/2009 - 15:46I tried it with firefox v3.0.14 running fast dial v2.23b1 With this configuration it worked perfectly, just like the tutorial.
I then tried it on Firefox v3.5.3 and with fast dial v2.23b1. This configureation didn't work. So I think that it must be the new firefox version!

Bookmarks must have changed in some way in Version 3.5, as we have discovered elsewhere.

Bookmarks & History
If your extension accesses bookmark or history data in any way, it will need substantial work to be compatible with Firefox 3. The old APIs for accessing this information have been replaced by the new Places architecture. See the Places migration guide for details on updating your existing extension to use the Places API.
