can't get my icons smaller again

nicenac —Sat, 01/17/2009 - 15:14

Hi, I just upgraded to the newest 2.22b FD, and now i can't seen to make my icons smaller than 100x75, and since i'm using a 17x10 matrix on a CRT 17 inch monitor, a whole lot of icons are "a tediously long scroll away", from each other.

And my icons are also much blurryer then before.

thanks for the help.

If it would be the case, how can I downgrade to a more suiting version? (I guess the one i was using before was 2.9)

thanks in advance.

PS: Not to worry, I'm still a FD-groupy...

Hi, I just upgraded to the newest 2.22b FD, and now i can't seen to make my icons smaller than 100x75

I think you will find that if you go to the box on the left where the cell size is, you can in fact edit the size yourself manually.
The right box will then calculate the correct other value.
See here 40x30

Hope that works for you.

And my icons are also much blurryer then before.

I wonder, were you using Java scaling before ?
Have you checked your opacity settings ?

If it would be the case, how can I downgrade to a more suiting version? (I guess the one i was using before was 2.9)

Might be worth hanging in for a little longer..
The present Version is really worth getting to know...

However if you want to download earlier Versions please got to AMO here

PS: Not to worry, I'm still a FD-groupy...

good to hear ! :-)

Many thanks

Hi, thanks for the reply!

about the size, thats exactly what I've been doing, but it show's no effect under 100x75, not even when i restart firefox or anything. And the opacity is 10x10 also (which seems to be the highest value).

I've been using Fast Dial for a long time now, but the resizing of icons have always worked well...

Another thing that has never worked (since implemented) is DRAG-N-DROP into folder with Ctrl+leftclick-drag. never never never nothing happens, actually, the folder updates, but it doesn't show even a copy of the outside link.

I really don't know why these things happen, or don't happen, but i do have some trouble whenever i try to install or update an add-on. sometimes it takes me ten firefox restarts (its always saying that i need to restart to make the changes effective, and i do have almost ten add-ons that just never gets "uninstalled when firefox restarts"), or, sometimes, as i solved today's installation of FireFTP, i had to ask for the unstallment of another add-on in order for the restart be recognized, and FireFTP be fully installed.

I know I ended up crying about a whole lot more than about my small icons, but maybe these clues may help figure things out.

(oh yeah, I'm on a 64 Vista)

thanks so much,
Marcos

Please see here:

Are you using fixed or not fixed ?

Yes 10 is highest.
If Java returns to Fast Dial maybe this will improve our display.

Bug in present Version, fixed in next Version.

I'm using fixed. and I do understand the concept of the scale. but nothing less than 100 makes even the smallest change.

Please see it (not)happening in this small video i just posted on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5GXzE4UfCU

Thanks again and i'll wait for the dragndrop feature.

Fast Dial has a minimum thumbnail size 100x75. Why would you ever want smaller size?

OK

And thanks for the Video

Here is the pixel ruler....enjoy.

Strange that I seem to get smaller cells than the legal minimum

Many thanks

I don't know if it is the ultimate minimum but i did use smaler sized icons, for i had, before my last upgrade, all 17x10 icons showing on my 17" normal screen (problably the last 2 rows had to be rolled over in order to see) Since I use a lot of logos and folders, the readbility of the thumbnails is good, and i can have a visual organization of my most important bookmarks... Thats why i need smaller thumbnails.

I don't know how it allowed it, but it did work before...

In order to install an older version, at least to see if it could accept smaller icons, do i have to uninstall FD first? But, of course, i wouldn't loose any bookmarks, correct?

thanks.

If I had a grid of 17x10 bookmarks, I would not do anything until I had backed up my present Complete Profile in FEBE in Full Profile Mode.

---

What I would recommend you do first is back up your present profile.
And get used to backing it up.
Hit the FEBE icon in the Toolbar and watch it happen.

So make a full profile backup of your present profile
Create a second Firefox Profile in Profile Manager
Restore your present profile to the second profile with FEBE
Then go to the second profile and play around there.
In that way your present profile/setup is protected twice.

Good luck

Interested to hear how you get on

Do you like this ?

This is 17x10 grid with smaller cells running in 2.22b
1024 x 768

Margin set at 5

With this Style running in Stylish

Not sure if this will work for you.
But it might be worth giving it a try as the control of the cell size is very precise

Alter pixel values in Style to increase Cell size
(Here set to 70px x 52px)

Oh and did you ever consider making a Group Folder or two ? :-)

I'll first make the backup and all with FEBE and try to get it right from there.

Will try the stylish approach later on.

Do have group folders, 25 of them... =)
