How Come SOME of My Bookmarks Keep Disappearing?

Just got Fast Dial, love it.

However, some of my Bookmarks have disappeared. Not all, only a few that I just recently added.

Is there a reason why this happened? Or is it some sort of bug...

In any case, I'd like to also somehow get those bookmarks back, if possible.

Which Version of Fast Dial are you running ?

How were these bookmarks added, with right click add, or with right click context menu on the web page and add to fast dial ?

I am using 2.22, just downloaded it.

I added them on the actual Fast Dial opening page, with all my other bookmarks. Right clicked, put in the URL, the name, and that was it. I saw them there a number of times, because I have Fast Dial as my "home page" and from there, I navigate to where I want to go.

It stinks though, because I had some really cool stuff on there that I can no longer find.

Any ideas on how to prevent this? And retrieve my lost bookmarks?

If you go to Bookmarks/Organise Bookmarks/Bookmarks Menu and look at the Fast Dial Folder is there any sign of the bookmarks you added there ?

Are you using any Folders ?
Could the lost bookmarks possibly be in a Folder somewhere.

Are you using any Extension like Foxmarks that has an influence on Bookmarks ?

No, they are not in the bookmark folder.

However, when I add them again, they are there, but then when they are gone, they aren't?

It's strange, because the others will stay...

What gives?

Try to disable Fast Dial addon, restart Firefox. Then add some bookmarks, restart Firefox again and see whether these new bookmarks disappear. I had such problem of bookmark disappearing after browser restart some time ago, but this was happening only on 3.1.x nightly build and no matter with or without Fast Dial.

Well, the problem isn't with other bookmarks, it's only with my bookmark pages on the Fast Dial opening screen.

It's strange, because it continues to keep my others, but deletes the new ones?

I'm going to try and sort of, "refresh" Fast Dial, disable it, re-enable it, and so forth...

Anyone else, I'm open to advice...This is a troubling matter.

Maybe You have done this already

Got to Organise Bookmarks
Bookmarks Menu
Find the Fast Dial Folder
Right click and choose Fast Dial/Make Home from the context Menu

That will clarify that your Root Folder is Fast Dial.

Yes you could also try uninstalling and re-installing Fast Dial 2.22b as well.

Might make your researches less frustrating.

Make a complete Profile Backup
Restore whole Profile to a second Profile and make your researches there.

In that way you will not damage your present profile.

Hi....I've had exactly the same problem, on two separate computers. One is a Lenovo X61tablet under Vista Business SP1, L7500 Intel Core2Duo at 1.60 GHz and 4 gigs of RAM with Firefox 3.0.5. The other is a Pavilion a33n running XP Home Version 2002 SP 3 with an Athlon 3000+ chip at 2.1GHz and 1 gig of RAM, also using Firefox 3.0.5.

Most, but not all of my bookmarks in the FastDial directory are gone. I'm not fussed about the bookmarks themselves; I've got them elsewhere, but I had quite a few icons in FD and don't really want to set them up again unless I can be sure they'll stay. Anyone got any ideas?

Hi cgriffiths,

I have found that this is a bug and it occurs for those thumbnails that were drag-n-dropped in Sort: Auto mode. They disappear when Sort mode is switched to None. I will fix this error in the next Fast Dial update. In fact bookmarks don't disappear, they just aren't shown in Sort: None mode due to an error. You can still access them in other sort modes or thought browsers Bookmark Manager.
