Use with voice modem?

Hello--I would like to use FD as a means of dialing an analog phone line. My goal is to use my PC as a phone in which I indicate a phone # in Firefox and that number is dialed via my analog line. I'm assuming I'll have to buy a voice modem and a headset as well.
Can someone confirm that FD will work in the way I'm describing? If so, do you have a recommendation on a good USB voice modem? Also, can I use a USB headset or will I have to connect a headset directly to the voice modem?
Please note that I do not wish to use VOIP for this application due to the generally poor voice quality.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Use with voice modem?
Submitted by chiaroscuro on Wed, 06/10/2009 - 15:33The name Fast Dial really comes from the fact that Fast Dial enables one with the help of images in cells to activate links to a stored bookmark.
So visual bookmarking.
It's standard use is not at all the one you describe.
So you may have come to the wrong place.
Please give more details as to how you intend to make your system work, especially as regards Firefox, and then we can see if we can be of any help.
Are you thinking of using Skype
Many thanks

The nearest thing, as Chia has mentioned, is Skype. You can buy credit and for a fraction of the cost of using a landline or mobile phone any number in the world.
VoIP is the only such technology I know to be in existance, and you say the quality is not very good, however this largely depends on your microphone.
I would advise you to use Skype and invest in a good quality headset.
Firefox is irrelevant to this process.
