missing "Add to Fast Dial" item in context menu

yesterday i was experimenting with some menu editing add-ons for FF3, didn't like them, uninstalled them all.
today i noticed that the "Add to Fast Dial ..." item was missing from my context menu. don't remember doing anything that would have caused that but on the off chance i did, i uninstalled and reinstalled FD2.1. still no context menu item.
created a new FF3 user profile, vanilla FF, no add-ons at all. installed FD2.1 ... still no context menu item for FD!
um, help! i have no idea what i might have broken but i'd sure like to know how to fix it.

You have not broken anything.... there is simply no "Add to Fast Dial" option in the context menu of Fast Dial 2.x
This option is only available in Fast Dial Version 1.x.
Adding Sites to Fast Dial may be of use to you.(FD 1 & FD 2)

i had somehow munged up my original install of FD2.1 so I actually still had the menu option ... for a while.
