FD confuses Foxmarks?

I use Foxmarks which is an online bookmark synchronizer. Anytime I made a change to FD, e.g., options in preferences, refresh all, etc., Foxmarks thinks there's a modification in bookmarks which will prompt a synchronization afterward. So, what did FD do to bookmarks? I'm using:

@Leopard2A5/anonymous: That's the process I described. My concern is that having multiple folders with the same name may prove problematic in the long term.

Regarding your:
For example, when I unchecked "Fast Dial" from the sync profile I use at work, Foxmarks didn't ignore the folder. It deleted it.
This could lead one to believe that FM is in fact unable to turn off synchronising between two individual folders of the same name, and that their only "solution" is to delete the offending file.
(Your workaround would seem to refute this idea).
It will be most interesting to see what Foxmarks comes back with.
A solution to this problem would be most welcome

But it's also "smart enough," apparently, to recognize that a folder that shares the same name as a folder that already excluded from syncing isn't the same folder. My concern is that the continued use of this work-around is dependent upon Foxmarks not changing the way things are done.
And since this "problem" arose when something with Fast Dial unexpectedly changed the way things were done.... Well, you see why I'll stay cautious. ;)

Yes of course.
Your folder might disappear at any time.

Yes strange is n't it.
This gives a real hope that a FM solution could be forthcoming.
You know to switch off same name file synchronising without deleting the file.
In the meanwhile the best option from Fast Dial would be to examine ways of having different Folder Names.
The Foxmarks solution would be by far the most elegant.

Yes, I have now seen your post on the Foxmarks site.
I see even that you have had a reply.
As regards Fast Dial a plan is in place to enable users to change the Fast Dial Folder Name in bookmarks, in this way creating a workaround for Foxmarks present behaviour
This modification should be available soon.
Were you successful in your attempts to modify Foxmarks behaviour this would enable Foxmarks users to run Fast Dial 2.x without any modifications.

There isn't a mechanism to exclude bookmark folders at the moment, except that provided by Sync Profiles (which you've already tried).
Does FastDial allow you to configure which folder it stores its data in? If so, you could create one folder called FastDialHome and another FastDialWork to alleviate the issue without naming conflicts.
We'll consider your idea as a future feature.
So, apparently, my "work around" is the only way to get this working.

Thank you for the details of the correspondence with Foxmarks which I am following with interest.
The great advantage of Foxmarks including the option you have asked for, would I think be that it would make the whole process of using Fast Dial simpler for Foxmarks users.
So, apparently, my "work around" is the only way to get this working.
As I have mentioned previously an option is in the pipeline to enable Fast Dial to work with different Folder names in Bookmarks.
I will keep you posted of developments.

Submitted by scouseboy on Thu, 09/25/2008 - 15:33I too have had enough of messing around with Foxmarks sync profiles to try and maintain different Fast Dial pages on two separate PCs.
I am intrigued to know what advantages are gained by Fast Dial 2.x's use of the bookmarks folder as opposed to the way the earlier versions stored the shortcuts? I assume a simple reversion to the old method is not possible.
I have enjoyed using Fast Dial but fear it is no longer any use to me in its current form. I'll keep watching for any new developments. Cheers

Submitted by dagwud on Wed, 10/01/2008 - 13:34Actually, I haven't had a problem in the last couple of weeks. My Fast Dial pages remain separate and distinct.
And the person over at FoxMarks noted that the folders in a bookmark list are actually identified by a unique identifier and not the name, so there's no problem with having two folders with the same name.
Seems to work, even if it's a bit of a pain.
