FireFox 3.5.2 & FastDial 2.23b1 seem to not like each other
at_jazz Sat, 08/29/2009 - 15:20
Every so often FD & FF manage to deploy updates that DO NOT work well together. This seems to be the case (with me, at least... actual mileage may vary) with the latest updates for each. FF3.5.2 & FD 2.23b1, and now I have NO control over ANY changes to my bookmarks. Any changes I make revert back to what they were PRIOR to updating to FF3.5.2 & FD 2.23b1 upon restart. Changes to properties, as well. Also, changes to the placement of bookmarks is broken in that they will NOT go where I try to place them.
FTR, my FF prompted an update to 3.5.2 from 3.5.1 (which had it's OWN issues with fastdial, if I remember, but I do not remember WHICH ver of FD it had problems with), after the restart, when it looks for updates to add-ons, it prompted to update FD which, I apparently incorrectly assumed was an update to address potential incompatibilities between FF3.5.2 and whatever version of FD predated 2.23b1, so I let it update. After another restart I went in to do a little bookmark maintenance and discovered the above mentioned issue.
So, when you guys gonna fix/update the problem away?

Submitted by chiaroscuro on Sat, 08/29/2009 - 15:26Thank you for your post.
For a start I would make sure that your Fast Dial Folder in Bookmarks is the correct one.
To do that please see here
Please let us know if this makes any difference.
Many thanks

Submitted by at_jazz on Sat, 08/29/2009 - 15:45Well, limited success... Very limited. Changes I make to the properties now take. But, I still am not able to "click&drag" bookmarks to a new location. Wait, let me qualify that. ANY location I try to move them to FD places them one spot BELOW where I "drop" them. Also, I just noticed that FD no longer displays the "title" of the bookmarks, where as before it did (I know this because it was one of the things I spent about an hour changing, after updating to 2.23b1), except on hover-over.
Your next suggestion?

Submitted by at_jazz on Sat, 08/29/2009 - 15:47Let me clarify the last part of my previous comment. No title view, now, except on hover-over. Before, the title was displayed.

Submitted by chiaroscuro on Sat, 08/29/2009 - 17:23I cannot see your Fast Dial.
Any pictures are also a help
Regarding the title, please check your settings in Preferences/Appearance/Title
Many thanks

This is strange
Have not encountered before
Please close and reopen Firefox.
Please check your Sort settings
Right click on Fast Dial and have Sort set to None.
Please also try uninstalling and reinstalling Fast Dial
Many thanks

Submitted by at_jazz on Sat, 08/29/2009 - 19:46OK, the "close & re-open" went about a BAD as can be. NOW, ALL OF MY BOOKMARKS ARE GONE!!! SO IS MY HISTORY!!! EVERYTHING!!! Fortunately, my "server" data seems (so far, at least) to remain present. But, I am not encouraged by this recent turn of events. I am now attempting to "re-load" my bookmarks & FD entries from the xmarks server. Once I get THAT accomplished I will search for an older version of FD and go with that until you guys roll out another, hopefully more compatible version of FD. Maybe drop me an email when that happens. I dint sign up for this level of grief.

Submitted by at_jazz on Sat, 08/29/2009 - 20:03And NOW, for some unknown reason, everything seems to be "mostly" back the way it was, except for being unable to see the titles of the bookmarks underneath each of the "tiles." I promise you, I did nothing other than close a tab and the entire browser shut down then, when I brought it back up, everything was back.
At this point I shall accept the "limited" failure I have managed to reclaim, and leave well enough alone. See you at the next FD update...

Good.
This is a definite improvement.
except for being unable to see the titles of the bookmarks underneath each of the "tiles
This is a simple matter to resolve.
Many thanks

Submitted by at_jazz on Sat, 08/29/2009 - 20:57I hate to bring up another "discovered" problem, BUUUUUT, now, if/when I right-click on a bookmark-tile, instead of the normal alternate-context menu I get the same one as if I were viewing a normal web page. I am almost afraid to shut it down, anymore, for fear of what will happen next.

If you are frightened please download FEBE and make a Full Profile Backup of your Present Firefox Profile. Then at least you will have a backup of what you have got now.
After that we can continue to try and find a solution to your problems
Many thanks
