Not compatible with Firefox
Ollie1991 Sat, 03/27/2010 - 12:18
I am using Fast Dial version 2.23b1 with Firefox version 3.6.2.
The problem is that when ever i load up Firefox after closing it Fast Dial says it is not compatible with Firefox version 3.6.2. I uninstalled Fast Dial and reinstalled it and it worked for the time i had Firefox up, and then when i closed it and opened it again Fast Dial didn't work. The problem started when i first downloaded the new version of Firefox.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Please see this thread
This problem is being caused by Norton... !!
See Norton thread here
Norton is deleting the extensions.rdf file in Firefox on computer bootup.
This problem started in Firefox 3.6

Submitted by Ollie1991 on Tue, 03/30/2010 - 08:44I read both threads but neither of them really say what my problem is, not that i understand all of it either.
Fast Dial isn't uninstalling, in the add on menu it just says 'Not compatible with Firefox 3.6.2'. I can't enable it but it does give me the option to uninstall it.
If this is what is described in the other two threads then please can you explain, in the simplist of words, what i need to do?
sorry, and thanks for the help.

I apologise.
I had presumed incorrectly the nature of your problem.
There are a number of different questions here.
If you cannot uninstall Fast Dial I would recommend starting Firefox in safe mode and try uninstalling Fast Dial there.
If that works, and you are sure that Fast Dial has been uninstalled completely, I would try loading and installing Fast Dial in safe mode as well.
please let me know if this works
The question then remains as to what is causing this problem in the first place.
there have been two reported problems like this, but both occur on computer reboot, not simply on Firefox reboot.
Both caused by virus software
to help clarify a little what might be happening, may I ask you to
1. Create a new firefox profile.
Try loading and installing only fast dial into Firefox in safe mode.
Try also in non safe mode.
See if there are any problems...
this would be interesting to know.
Please could you also mention your Version of Fast dial, and your operating system, and your virus protection software.
many thanks

I can uninstall it and it gives me the option to, for which i have tried and re installed it and the same problem happens.
What I meant was I thought that in the threads they were talking about Fast Dial uninstalling on Firefox reboot, but that is not my problem, mine is FD disables and i can't re enable it until i shut down Firefox and re install FD, this only happens when I turn off Firefox.
I'm very sorry for the confusion.

So your problem is that Fast Dial becomes disabled.

So close Firefox
In windows go to start/run
enter
firefox.exe -p
in the run window and hit ok
and then follow prompts.
This is the firefox profile manager
Once in the new profile, download fast dial, and see if it installs ok or not.....
