Suggestion: Fast Dial Toolbar!
gumanov Sun, 11/02/2008 - 16:41
hey all. i just came up with what i think is a very interesting concept..
Wouldnt it be cool, if Fast Dial came with a Toolbar Mode Option?
So that a user could enable the fast dial toolbar, and have some or all of his links(cells) in the toolbar, as icons?
Then there would be an area on the site where users can share toolbar icons..!
I have created a picture of the concept to help explain (click to enlarge) :
NOTICE: The above image is Photoshopped, and is FAKE! As i said this is a suggestion, not a feature yet!
WARNING! This is in no way guaranteed to become a feature of Fast Dial! It is a concept that MAY be implemented!
SO, what do you guys think?

That's what I do now (;
But I also draggged the Bmks toolbar items to my main toolbar.

Previous Options not available in new version
Submitted by Janly (not verified) on Wed, 01/07/2009 - 13:10Hello,
I've been using Fast Dial for a while. I think it's a great addon for Firefox. However, it seems that the new version took away an option that I was using. I have the fast dial set as my homepage. On it I have four "Folders", and on each of these folders I have my favorite links. I had it set that the "Folders" and the link in these folders to take me back, would open on the same tab. And the links on each of these folders would open on separate tabs. Now, if I update the preferences on my links, it updates the preferences for my folders as well. So my folders now opens on separate tabs, if I correct the preferences for the folders, it changes the one for my links. So it seems that the preferences is an overall default, with no separate options for each.
If this is the case, then I don't see a need to have the preference option on each folder/link I create. It can be set as the default option on the addon screen instead. Or is this a bug on the new version?
Thanks..........Alex
Update on Options Not available in new version
Submitted by Janly (not verified) on Wed, 01/07/2009 - 13:23Also,
The same goes for the number of Folders/links. On my main page I have it set to view four folders, and on my links I had it set to view 12. However, if I change the amount to view on my links, it also changes it on the main page. Which it makes it look weird, since I have all these links on my secondary folders, but my main page then has all these empty space.

Submitted by Pissed (not verified) on Fri, 01/09/2009 - 00:54I thought I liked this until it completely screwed up my fast-dial page with an update. So here's a suggestion, don't f****** add things to my fast dial-page without confirmation. Although this may sound minor, I have bad sight and when something is not where it was, it takes a while to figure out. Thanks for the great app, but please think about whats going to happen when you do things of your own accord.

I sent the developer an e-mail about it and he informed me it would be corrected in 2.17.

Yes Preference Appearence Settings are global now, and not folder specific
Many thanks

Thanks for the information.
Have tried 2.17d but the settings are still global.
Probably come later...
Re: Suggestion: Fast Dial Toolbar!
Submitted by JBranste (not verified) on Sun, 01/11/2009 - 14:56It doesn't look like the global setting will change anytime soon, however, in 2.22 it does appear that folders now open in the same tab, regardless of the settings in preferences. The global setting now only applies to links and not folders.
So, you can set the option to "open in new tab" in preferences and your folders will still open in the current tab, while links will open in a new tab. It may not have as much flexibility as before, but at least you can recover the same functionality as you had before.
It's good enough for me, but others with different setups may not agree.
