Suggestion: Fast Dial Toolbar!
gumanov Sun, 11/02/2008 - 16:41
hey all. i just came up with what i think is a very interesting concept..
Wouldnt it be cool, if Fast Dial came with a Toolbar Mode Option?
So that a user could enable the fast dial toolbar, and have some or all of his links(cells) in the toolbar, as icons?
Then there would be an area on the site where users can share toolbar icons..!
I have created a picture of the concept to help explain (click to enlarge) :
NOTICE: The above image is Photoshopped, and is FAKE! As i said this is a suggestion, not a feature yet!
WARNING! This is in no way guaranteed to become a feature of Fast Dial! It is a concept that MAY be implemented!
SO, what do you guys think?

Submitted by LT (not verified) on Sun, 01/11/2009 - 18:43I like the idea, but my first thought is "Isn't this just like the bookmarks bar?" I use my Fast Dial like a filing cabinet. twelve files, and in each file are the bookmarks I use most often. What I'd like to see from a Fast Dial toolbar would be to replace the bookmark bar entirely and have it work with folders as well. have a folder icon and upon clicking it, all other Fast Dial icons vanish, and all you have is a "Back" icon and the icons in that respective folder. that way you won't need to open up a new page every single time.

Maybe, instead of having to close your open tabs or click new tab, Ctrl+F+D would replace the current tab with fast dial.

You can specify Fast Dial shortcut key in Preferences, on General tab, this key combination will open FD in current tab.

[Sorry my English, not my natural language[
I'm a proud user of FD and I think is one of the most features/addon I use on firefox, I can live without it, :D
I'm reading this post, and I like it the features that were proposed, but carefull with the choices.
I writing here because I want to comment something that I would like to have too, something that I'm as an user feel that is missing or can be helpfull.
I would like to see how FD open one of my configured sites in a new Window, but, without all the stuff that I have, like a clean window (no toolbars, scroll, statusbar, menu, ....). I'm making that introducing a JavaScript code(
javascript:window.open('http://www.gmail.com','gmail','width=1024,height=1800,scrollbars=NO,toolbar=NO,status=NO,resizable=YES,location=NO,menubar=NO');
) and it just works, excepts that it redirects the FD main page to a Firefox message saying about the JavaScript code type and I have to open a new tab just to get FD back. I hate that in some way. I think that it will be a great option to have, like configure those options when I create one access in FD.Thanks for attention.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to do.
Please explain a little more.
Do you mean in fullscreen mode ?
Please have a look at this and see if it is in any way relevant:
Running Fast Dial in Fullscreen Mode with Autohide

Not, is not the idea the full screen mode, because I think will be a little hard be switching between fullscreen and normal mode, I think more like Google chrome does with app sites, when you convert work a web page like an app. am I clear? I hope so. I think a window, only a clear window with nothing as I said before (menu bar, toolbar, status bar, ...) everything with an option.
I can post some images how my window opens, but I think that you can have and idea remembering the pop ups windows, they are clear windows.
That's because I like my Firefox, I like to have my passwords on one app and other options that I already have, as stylish to work with gmail, gcalc, .... and others, I envy the Mozilla Prism and Chrome but they don't works like Firefox :P.
Hi telega, I hope to see :D.
Thanks for attention [and sorry if my English is a little confuse :P]
